Tick, tick, tick, that was all that Morita could hear while his eyes stayed fixated on the chess pieces in front of himself. It was around 5:30 pm and Morita’s precious chess time. Thankfully the only noise was coming from the wall clock hanging nearby, making sure he always knew what time it was. Slowly tilting his head to the side, widening his eyes while trying to figure out the next move. Who was he playing against? Himself of course. Most residents shied away from him, though that could be because he had tendencies towards being alone. The pawn danced across the board, twirling and spinning towards the other teams pawn. Or did it just move two spaces? Either way, it had made it’s move and next came the white sides turn. The only move their army could make was for the bishop to attack his knight or their Queen go kamikaze against his Queen. It was a blood bath no matter what. Clicking his teeth against the edge of his nail, biting at it. Hoping the next move would magically take form though he was excellent at this game so he could figure it out soon enough.
Leaning forward, grasping the bishop from the other side of the board, feeling as if it isn’t even his own hand, and dragging it slowly across to collide with his own knight. Bringing up his arm, saluting his fallen comrade, Morita placed the sweet delectable sweet back into his mouth. Reaching over he very carefully picked up the corpse with his thumb and forefinger and placed it in sick bay. Removing the sucker from his mouth, savoring the sugary goodness now soaking his taste buds causing Morita to salivate and being left with a want for more. So divine. How dare they make candy so addictive? Whose they? I don’t know...they...the candy makers...the people who make and sell candy, you know. The sellers. Oh THEY I thought you were talking about the same people who created chess and we love chess. Yes I know we do, why else would we play it every day? And I did say candy, not chess. I don’t know, because we have no life? I noticed, but they could have made chess too. Would you please shut up, I need to concentrate on my next move. Morita looked over the pieces, figuring out the next move.
Scratching his bare foot, shoes and socks made his feet all sweaty and suffocated. The feeling was unpleasant, to kill ones feet by such a cruel act was definitely horrendous. Then again, death at any cost was terrible. Grabbing the lone gunman [pawn] carefully with his thumb and forefinger, he moved him outwards into no mans land where he would undoubtedly get killed. But hey, after all he was just a pawn. Called Pawns because they were used as pawns for pawning them off in situations that shouldn’t be handled by more important characters such as the Queen side bishop. Who, he might add, has excellent taste in tea flavors. Once his fingers left the poor man, he was on his own and now Morita had left him to his darkest lesson. That in the end, everyone is alone. Rocking back and forth while he waited for himself to make the next move, chomping on his fingernail in anticipation. It was always a wonder what the next move would be, not even he himself could figure it out till it was done.
