The Plot
What was formerly an orphanage known for its corrupt staff has evolved into a mental institution. For more than one hundred years it has withstood the reach of the law, experiments being conducted on the helpless children that resided there. All of the staff knew what was going on in the basement, but none would come clean with the truth. The orphanage was paid extra for every child that was adopted out but because they were not strict on who they went with, the Orphanage did not run background checks on potential parents. Countless children lost their lives to neglect and cruelty.
Koba Matsuoka, the reigning mobster of New York City, has made it his mission to take away the corruption of the facility. He converted it with his own savings from an orphanage to a mental institution, though the names 'Dunrow-Faunte' still grace the entrance. Despite his good intentions there is still the underlying reason for his involvement: a legitimate tax write-off for everything that he contributes. He often hires people with a connection to his syndicate, giving them a chance before he deems them unfit for the job. For this reason some of the corruption remains, but it is slowly getting better...
There is still some mistreatment of the patients. Sadistic therapists use mind games on their patients to drive them even more insane, they lie about the condition of their family members to those who don't get visitors, and they use violence to enforce their 'good behavior'. If someone acts out against them the patient is taken into the basement... and never seen again. Despite these obvious hints that the institution is nearly as well-off as it was when it was an orphanage, Matsuoka remains blind to the real problem. The Staff.
